Will this adapter work with any USB port on my laptop?
ALOGIC Gigabit network adapters require a USB port with USB 3.0 (5Gbps) capability to achieve full Gigabit speeds. They will also function on USB 2.0 ports, but network throughout will be limited to approximately 480Mbps.
What cable type do I need for Gigabit speeds?
The adapter supports 1Gbps speeds over Cat 5e and faster including Cat 6 and Cat 6A network cables. Most existing Cat 5e installations in homes and offices are sufficient to achieve full Gigabit performance.
Does the adapter need an external power supply?
No. The adapter is powered entirely by the USB-C host port. There is no need to carry or connect an external power adapter.
Is this adapter compatible with VLAN-tagged networks?
ALOGIC Gigabit Ethernet adapters support IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, making it suitable for use on enterprise networks with VLAN segmentation.
Does PXE boot work with this adapter?
PXE boot is an enterprise feature that allows booting a computer from an operating system image served by another networked computer. This adapter supports PXE boot, however the computer must also have UEFI support for Realtek RTL8153 based Ethernet adapters to be able to boot from the adapter. Realtek based 1 Gigabit Ethernet adapters are the adapters most ubiquitously supported by computer manufacturers for PXE boot, and this adapter will provide PXE boot functionality on most computers.
Note: Microsoft Surface devices do not have UEFI support for non-Microsoft Ethernet adapters and will not PXE boot from third party Ethernet adapters including this product.
